While executing infrastructure and construction works starting from 1979, Mr. M. Vehbi Bilgin, Civil Engineer, M.S. founded Yapısan Construction Limited Co. in 1981. The Company focused on the renewable energy generation since 1992. After conducting technical and feasibility studies, the Company realized six hydroelectric power plant and five wind energy power plant investments which are under operation today. The company is restructured in 2006 and Bilgin Energy Investment Holding became the parent company of the investments.
Around 800 to 1000 personnel are employed during the construction works of the power plants. In the operation phase, 24 of them being engineers, 400 administrative and technical experts are employed in the Company.
DEVELOPMENT OF BİLGİN ENERGY AND ITS PLACE IN THE ENERGY SECTOR
Bilgin Energy made all of its investments in the energy generation and preferred only renewable energy investments such as hydroelectric and wind power plants due to environmental sensitivity. The Company is in the pioneer position with its renewable energy investments. 30 MW Bandırma WEPP of the Company, which is taken under operation in 2006, is the first private sector wind energy power plant in Turkey. The first private sector hydroelectric power plant investment, 14 MW Hacılar HEPP, is also realized by Bilgin Energy and taken under operation in 2003.
395 MW being wind energy and 477 MW being hydro energy, with a total installed power of 872 MW under operation, Bilgin Energy is significantly contributing to Turkey’s economy with its renewable energy production. The total produced energy of the power plants is 2.8 to 3 billion kWh per year and this energy corresponds to more than 1% of the Turkey’s electricity consumption.
